there is a new woman in my life – annie clark – who goes by the stage name st. vincent.

st vincent chekmo: saint where have you been all my life?

a little elvis or something with the hair, but she’s still awesome.

she sings like an angel, so st vincent is an apt monicker.  def one of a few folks whose vocals are absolutely enchanting; something to save for another post.  her lyrics and music reveal a real talent for writing something that can be at once catchy and honest.  the lyrics are her own, and the sense of earnestness that comes through is remarkable.

st vincent is by no means a massive secret, as she won the 2008 PLUG independent music awards best female artist.  that being said, you have to be into the likes of  (the national, television, arcade fire, briertone, andrew bird, jolie holland, john vanderslice, midlake, tracy + the plastics, tuck & patti, xiu xiu, death cab for cutie and cristina donà) that she’s opened for (and how often do openers go unlauded anyway) or just gotten lucky with a good recommendation or publication to have her come across your radar.

annie has two full-length albums out,  the first marry me (named after a line from arrested development) and the released-a-few-months-ago actor.  be sure to check out both.

awesome when someone is as good live as on an album, isn’t it?  you respect them so much more!

Joe, you’re too cool for school, man! :) Though, way to dig up some good new stuff and share it with the world.

I started a blog a while back as well. fourstevens.blogspot.com. Drop by sometime. Working on buying some new recording equipment so I can step up my musical projects.
