this is the haunting ballad of an individual who realized the error of his ways too late…  today’s song of the day is richard swift‘s looking back, i should have been home more (lyrics).  the song sounds ancient.  the agony sounds intense.  the music seems classic.  well, it’s just a few years old, and richard swift (who shall henceforth be called rick!)  is a young man in his early 30′s.

it’s ok rick, we won’t hold it against you that your songs have an ‘old soul’ vibe that made us expect you to be older.  and wiser.  it’s also ok that you have some crazy hair.  it’s ok because you do good work anyway, and you have the song of the day, and you’re with secretly canadian – who can basically do no wrong.  the sound, described as tin pan alley-esque belongs on any nuevo-pioneer rock mix.  it’s no wonder the man got his start singing in quaker churches…

looking back, i should have been home more from the novelist/walking without effect: the richard swift collection by richard swift ; indie rock 2003/2005.

another song by rick fye
