30 hard earned dollars went to 500 Days of Summer.  Totally worth it.

five hundred days of summer1 late solstice

20 went to the movie theater.  Who wants to see a movie by yourself if you don’t have to!  95 minutes of awesome.  This should hardly come as a surprise.  89% on Rotten Tomatoes, and generally 3.5 of 4 stars means that this is no great secret.

10 went to the soundtrack.  The music is solid.  It’s like a Zach Braff movie, just better.  How?  Zooey D.  Be still my heart.  She sings a few bars in the movie, on the elevator and in the bar.  Nothing monumental, but nice.  She & Him also contribute a number to the soundtrack.

That’s not what makes the soundtrack stand out though.  It’s great because it retells the story.  The soundtrack is like a long Bon Jovi song reminding you of a school dance.  Just better.  Way better!  Who wants to remeber school dances anyway…

Not enough albums tell a story anymore.  Most of them are designed with a few poppy singles bound for iTunes glory or flaming ignominy.  500 Days of Summer was compiled to be listened to in its entirety; do this and it will reward you with the genesis of emo – British wallowing style -, laughs, the French first lady, and Mumm-Ra (new indie awesome, not old school blue mummy villain of 80′s nightmares).

Every time I hear You Make My Dreams -Come True- by Hall & Oates, I smile…

(PS. that mustache, uu-MAZING!!!!!)
