oh canada, i’ll admit, honestly, this is my least favorite sampler.  just didn’t love it.  it’s ok though, because it’s free and it comes with invisible (lyrics) by winter gloves, aka, the song of the day.

catchy synth vibe with a nice base line and fun lead vocals.  plus, this song looks so, so, good in contrast to the remainder of the album.  really, only laura barrett‘s wood between worlds, the acorn‘s flood pt. 1, and sally shapiro‘s miracle are worth playing multiple times.  harsh but true.  dancer (cfcf remix) by woodhands is also not bad.  to like those songs though, you have to (sequentially), be patient, like folky prog rock, tolerate europop, and enjoy remixes with random dudes doing that angry german sounding voice.  so, yah.

sorry paper bag records, sometimes the truth hurts.  it’s funny that this is the same label that puts out born ruffians and the rural alberta advantage (previously featured here).  they seem to do quite a bit of prog and experimental rock, if that’s your bailiwick.  also, in case you’re inspired (as this sampler is from canadia), here is a cool link to the “top 8 canadian albums of 2008”  (the offendable should avert their eyes for album 8).

invisible from about a girl/paper bag records fall ’09 sampler by winter gloves ; canadian indie rock 2008/2009.
