for today i decided to spotlight another rock opera, or so called concept album.  like mae’s the everglow (link), today’s song of the day comes from a compelling, story driven album called the mother, the mechanic, and the path.  this was the early november’s second full length (and third and fourth) and i picked a short, sweet song from the third part, or “the path”  (which the label had a beef with) called  i think this is love (lyrics).

early november mother mechanic path 300x250 i think this is love by the early november

this album is very interesting.  it’s the same story, told three times.  there is this intense pain conveyed in three distinct ways.  the first is acousticy.  the second is rocky.  the third is therapeutic, a mixture of spoken word and short bursts of song.  each one has it’s high points, and lower points.  some highlights include hair, driving south, i don’t know how to say this, and 1000 times a day from the mother, decoration, no good at saying sorry (one more chance), and long talks from the mechanic, as well as you don’t know what it’s like, runaway ii, and guess what from the path.  you can access blurbs of each song here.

so, kick back, listen, and prepare to weep internal gut-wrenching soul-shaking tears of sadness hearing the story of an abandoned child from the perspective of the mother, father, and child…

i think this is love from the mother, the mechanic, and the path by the early november ; alt-rock 2006.
