this song of the day comes from a free sampler whose focus is black rock and roll. while all the songs on the album are not created equally, freedom is over from the artist sophia ramos is a winner. the live version below proves she can rock out…
i love the idea of a sampler devoted to current black rock and roll and afropunk. this got me thinking about the best african american rock and roll artists. i decided to open it up just a tad to some soul/blues stuff, as long as it rocked and/or rolled. my take on the best stuff is on the next post.
aside from the song of the day, i think the other stand outs are nerdkween‘s icon, california king‘s on planet earth, the smyrk‘s the ballad of fletcher reede, and shelley nicole’s blakbush‘s blak girls. this song also struck a weird chord in my mind and made me think of serena ryder. we’ll rock out to a short post on her too.
