sitting here thinking about the myriad of non-song of the day posts that are planned, a thought occurred. why have you not posed yet about archive.org’s music section? why? stupidity, time, distraction, well – whatever the reason – it’s done.
archive.org features such awesome things as non-nudie images, texts, audio (books, radio programs etc), and the internet wayback machine. that, in case you haven’t heard, is where you can put in a website and date and pull up cached images from yesteryear. pretty snazzy! you say, can it get better??
yes! clearly. most important for here, and now, is the live music archive. it features over 4 thousand bands and 75 thousand recordings. most importantly, they’re all free and legit. nothing illegal about it. nada. zilch. zip. zero! you can typically download the concerts by part or whole, and in mp3 or lossless flac. (they think of everything.) sure, many of the 4,000 are people you probably have never heard of, but many more are notable, awesome bands (or 90′s awesome). each band has endorsed their stuff going up on the archive, and they even have emails, letters, or other documentation to prove it. how you like dem apples riaa!
curiosity piqued? here is a ‘short’ list (60+) artists whose music you can find for free. a recommendation – pay attention to the most popular and star ratings because not all recording quality is created equal!
